Testing
It has been said that the study of the martial arts is a journey. With that perspective, testing marks the milestones along the way. Gup (rank) testing provides the student the opportunity to demonstrate their skill, proficiency, and progress. Each gup (rank) level has certain requirements and skill sets in which the student must be proficient before he/she is eligible to test. Gup testing is held every three months, typically March, June, September and December. Dan (1st degree black belt or higher) testing is held semi-annually at the discretion of the association.
Students will be recommended by their instructors to the technical advisory committee to confirm their eligibility to test. Testing at Delaware Tang Soo Do Academy is considered a privilege and not a right or entitlement. Those eligible for testing should verify the date, time, location and fees of the test with their instructor. Any questions regarding testing should be referred to Master Clarkson. Testing is both physically and mentally rigorous. It is a responsibility of those testing to adequately prepare to reach their next milestone. This includes attending classes and practicing outside of class. On test day, please arrive at least a half hour before the designated start time well rested with a clean uniform. A brief description of the gup (rank) requirements are described below.
