The Benefits of Martial Arts Training for Children
There are many physical, emotional, and social benefits of martial arts training for children.
Martial arts training can:
- reduce the risk for obesity and help build stronger bones and muscles
- be an effective tool for reducing the symptoms of stress and depression
- enhance mental health by increasing positive feelings about body image
- improve self-esteem
- offer tangible experiences of competency and success
Regular martial arts training helps children learn: respect, self-discipline, concentration, courtesy and control of their thoughts/bodies/actions. It also helps children gain confidence and self esteem.
Leadership is earned by receiving stripes/colored belts with rank for reaching specific goals in training and attitude. Upper belts are held responsible for being a role model for lower belts. Students are eligible to test about every 3 months. In this manner, there is always someone to lead the student, and someone for the student to lead.
Other benefits of martial arts:
- ideal for children who do not do well in team sports
- safer than most school sports
- children with special needs, such as ADD, learning difficulties and hyperactivity are often recommended to participate in martial arts because of the clear benefits in its structured training
It is a good idea to start your child in karate training when he or she is young. Many parents have noticed their children have better confidence, are more physically fit and more respectful in less than a year as a result of martial arts training.
